- Your dog wont stop before a puddle or rain, so it must be at least water resistance.
- You don't want to charge the tracker every day, so Long battery is a must! 7 days battery life is optimal.
- Reliable Gps data - the only way to insure that is by using a gps tracking system , the device itself is nice but u never know if the location you got is from now or yesterday.You need a system to check the accuracy and quality of the data, therefor stay away from systems/devices without web interface.
- Smartphone access, it is 2012 after all, we all carry our smartphones everywhere even to places we should not :-) so an iPhone/android/wp8 app is a must, no explanations needed.
The solutions
There are several good solutions out there, the difference is usually in the price for the device and the monthly subscription, always read the small letters on how how many times you can request for a location and if the tracking is automatically only (if you get a location every 30 minutes it wont help you pinpoint exactly where your dog is now) on also on demand (better solution, as you need the location now and now 30 min ago).
